Children love staying with Purple Ski....

We are always looking for ways to make your holiday and your children's as happy and hassle free as possible.

For instance, our chauffeured minibuses mean you don't have to worry about getting them and their ski equipment to or from the pistes. And we will gladly serve children's high tea in the early evening so that you can relax and enjoy dinner with your friends later, while they play in the sitting room nearby or have gone to bed! Or, if you all wish to eat together, your chef will tailor the food to suit. And on the chalet staff's night off we provide children's high tea and complimentary baby sitting.

We are also happy to book ski lessons (available for children over the age of four), lift passes and ski equipment in advance and, if necessary, we can help you to arrange a nanny or babysitter, so that there is less to think about on your arrival.

Cots, hire chairs, a small selection of games and children's videos are available in each chalet and, if requested, we can even stock up on nappies and hire pushchairs for you, to save you bringing them with you. Please indicate your requirements on the booking form.

For child care during the day, we work with "Kids Etcetera", a company established in 2001 by qualified nanny Shirley O'Neill, offering a private nanny service, a play group, evening babysitting if required, plus equipment hire and child packs. Shirley, like us, has been in Meribel since the 1991/92 season. She hand-picks, screens (including references and police checks) and trains her team and will be able to provide qualified and/or experienced nannies to look after your children in the comfort of the chalet (see below - please book early to ensure availability).

Also, for children between the ages of three and five, "Les P'tits Loups" kindergartens in Mottaret and Méribel are open between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. every day. The playgrounds are equipped with inflatable characters and ski tows; towards the middle of the week children start to learn the rudiments of skiing. During bad weather children can enjoy an air-conditioned chalet equipped with games and a rest area.

The Club Saturnin in Méribel can also look after children aged 18 months to 3 years.

Qualified and/or experienced Nannies and Babysitters for one or more children (any age accepted). Your children will be looked after in your chalet. Bookings are taken on a weekly basis (5 and a half days; the nanny has half a day off, timing to be agreed with you).

Please note that for children and babies aged 4 years and under, Kids Etcetera adopts a ratio of 1 nanny to a maximum of 2 children. For children aged 5 years and over, a ratio of 1 nanny to a maximum of 4 children.

Kids Etcetera can provide a collection service for children attending ski school, to return them to the chalet. Other meeting points with Mum and Dad can also be arranged on request.

Kids Etcetera can supply an assortment of toys, games, books etc., and organise a range of activities according to the ages of babies and children, to include outdoor excursions (weather permitting). However please note that Nannies are not permitted to teach skiing or snowboarding unless qualified to do so, in which case rates will be agreed prior to engagement.

The cost of hiring a nanny (per nanny) is given below.

Kids Play group for babies and children (3 months - 7 years). Children are taken care of within the safe environment of Kids Etcetera's purpose-built nursery in Méribel Les Allues. A pick-up/drop-off service and ski school collection is available and bookings are on the basis of either a full or half day. The chalet is fully equipped with games and toys, together with arts and crafts for the older children. Cots are also provided for sleep times. The Kids Etc Play group has been inspected, meets all regulations and has been fully approved by all the relevant governing child care authorities in France.

A range of baby and toddler equipment is available to hire, including pushchairs and sterilising equipment. All rental equipment needs to be reserved in advance as demand is high, especially during peak weeks. Equipment will be delivered to your accommodation.

Cheeky Monkeys

Private nanny service - new in Meribel for 2007-2008

Sharon Turner set up "Cheeky Monkeys" in Morzine 3 years ago, and has decided to expand to Meribel for the 2007-2008 season. We have never worked with her, but she assures us of very high standards of care. She has private nannies only [no creche] - all are English and fully qualified holding either a BTEC, NVQ, NNEB or equivalent. They have all been police checked and hold valid first aid certificates.

She is offering a very flexible range of nanny services, depending on availability. For instance, nannies can be booked:

- by the day (8.30am to 5.30pm) at a cost of £100 per child per day,

- for multiple days, e.g., 4 days at £250 per child, 5 days at £300 per child and 6 days at £350 per child - for babies and toddlers up to 3 years),

- for afternoons only from 12.00-5.30pm, at £205 per child for 6 afternoons - for children who are at ski school in the mornings

- in a flexible package of either 6 afternoons (1.15 to 5.30om) or 6 mornings (8.30 to 12.45) or 3 full days (8.30am to 5.30pm) or a mixture, at £225 per child - for older children.

Freelance baby-sitter - Claire Gagnet

Claire is a freelance baby-sitter who has been working as a nanny/au pair in Meribe since 1995. Her clients have included local families, private chalet owners and also clients of catered chalet companies and hotels. She speaks excellent English (as well as her native French), also good Spanish, and has been much praised by those of our clients who have used her.

 

Her rates are €15 per hour for one/two children - with a small supplement for any additional children (ages permitting); she is normally available from 09.00 to 16.30 daily.
