Independent Ski Schools in Méribel

Small Independent Ski Schools

As well as a wealth of excellent ski schools, there are lots of very small groups of independent ski instructors and guides operating in Méribel. The following are details of some that we are happy to recommend to you.

For more details and/or to make a booking, please contact Karen on . Alternatively, you may book these lessons directly with the provider (web links and contact details are given below). NOTE: lessons within 2 weeks of your holiday start date should be booked directly by yourself.

Please book as early as possible to maximise your chances of getting the instructor/guide of your choice. This is important for all weeks of the season but particularly during school holidays. Most of these instructors will ask that, during busy periods, you book them all day and for the full week. At other times, they will be more flexible.

Ski with the son of the founder of Méribel. Off piste ski courses with David Lindsay.

David LindsayDavid is a French, English and New Zealand certified instructor who has taught skiing all over the world and founded the "Section Internationale" of the Méribel ESF in 1983. He is the son of Peter Lindsay, the founder of Méribel, who started the resort in 1936.

David is running 3 and 6 day ski-courses for just two weeks during the season. These are for "reasonably capable" off-piste skiers and those who are keen to venture further from the trails, discover more of the 3 Valleys and have an "OK" level of fitness. The courses have a mixture of technique, video analysis and lots of skiing, on-piste as well as off. The atmosphere is fun, friendly and informal but with a real enthusiasm for the sport and the mountains and will suit those who want to increase their off-piste capabilities and overall technique whilst skiing with a group of like-minded skiers.

The technical side will focus on:

1. Safety - especially off-piste.

2. Equipment - right length skis and boots that work.

3. Perfect balance.

4. Video analysis - is that really me?

5. Skiing in and on different types of snow.

6. How the skis work on piste. Carving - am I or aren't I?

7. Your personal objectives.

Led by Eric Beauquenne, this is a team of 8 independent, professional instructors all of whom have been teaching in the 3 Valleys for over 10 years. Last season (2009-2010) was the first time we had worked with them; we - and our clients - found them unresevedly excellent. Charming and perceptive instructors, great at challenging you just the right amount!

Lessons cost 430 euros per full day and 300 euros for a 4 hour session in the morning.

For more information, or to make a booking, please contact Karen at or contact Eric .

Eskilibre (Franck Colombier) - Web Site

A "cooperative" of around 10 independent, fully qualified instructors, operating in Méribel and Courchevel, our contact with Eskilibre so far has only been with Franck Collombier. Franck has been instructing in Méribel for over 16 years now, and knows the area phenomenally well. So far, relatively few of our guests have used him (we have only just "listed" him!) but feedback from one group so far was very positive, he also guided/taught a few Purple Ski staff members over the last 3 seasons and has always been able to show them many "hidden" gems of relatively un-skied off-piste, also given very good instruction and guidance, whether on or off piste.

Lessons cost from 390 euros per full day and from 210 euros for a 4 hour session in the morning.

For more information, or to make a booking, please contact Karen at or contact Franck .
