Purple Ski News

October 2009

Welcome to Purple Ski's first newsletter of 2009. A lot has happened since the last letter, both inside and outside Purple Ski.

During last season, we decided not to renew our lease on Chalet Rousillon and the recently-retired owner of Olympie III told us of his plans to spend more time in his chalet, so that, after 18 seasons, Purple Ski no longer has a connection with Mottaret. Well, almost - see the snippets section as Olympie III is in fact still available through us.

So we thought that, with just two chalets and most of the staff returning from 2008/09, we were set for a quiet season. But then Scott Dunn decided to relinquish their last chalet in Meribel, followed quickly by the demise of Descent International. This has led to us taking on two stunning new chalets and means that Purple Ski now offers what are undoubtedly the loveliest chalets available to rent in Meribel. For more details read on below.

The new chalets were signed rather later than usual in the year, so there is still plenty of availability, also some great introductory prices and special offers. Please visit the prices page for more details.

This season 16 of our staff are returning from previous seasons and we have a staff ratio in excess of 1 to every 2 guests. You will find details later on in the newsletter.

For a more news please read on. Any questions please drop me a line or visit the web site.

Two new chalets for Purple Ski

We are delighted to add 2 stunning new chalets to our portfolio this season. Chalet Foinsbois in Meribel Village, and Chalet La Petite Pia in Meribel, are established chalets:

Uber luxury in Meribel Village
Chalet FoinsboisChalet Foinsbois is possibly the most luxurious chalet in Meribel. Beautifully furnished and very private, the chalet is situated at the end of a private drive in the ultra discreet Meribel Village, in arguably the most sought after position within the village.

The chalet sleeps 12 to 15 guests and with its spacious bedrooms, amazing facilities and uninterrupted views, this is one of THE chalets in which to stay in Meribel.

The chalet is one of those rare chalets that defines Alpine Luxury.

For more information visit the Foinsbois page on the web site.

Chalet La Petite PiaChalet La Petite Pia is a beautiful free standing chalet, ideal for 8 people, situated in the heart of Meribel and one of the loveliest we have had the pleasure of looking after. Stone clad and spread over three spacious floors, the chalet has wonderful views from the wide sunny balconies over Meribel valley. The interior is a mix of beautiful polished wood and tiled floors and wooden paneled walls; every part of the chalet has been lovingly decorated by the interior designer owner and the result is a charming and individual "home from home" that can't fail to please.

The chalet has all the expected luxuries like a fabulous outdoor hot tub, cinema / games room, plenty of space for relaxing, and a central location.

For more information visit the Petite Pia page on the web site.

Other News and Special Offers

New in Meribel

The lift companies have always been great at managing the ski domain, and invariably invest a large percentage of their income on improvements. This year is no different with the main improvement affecting us being the replacement of the Golf chair lift in Meribel Village into a fast, detachable chair lift which will halve the journey time, whizzing guests staying at Iamato and Foinsbois up to the Saulire sector and the Altiport area of the domain.

What's on in Meribel

There are plenty of other things going on in Meribel this season, including:

  • 10th-13th December: Meribel Backgammon Tournament for the first time, with Masayuki Mochizuki (“Mochy” to his friends), the Backgammon World Champion, being one of the participants
  • 16th December: The FIS Freestyle World Cup
  • March 20th to April 3rd: British Alpine Ski Championships
  • March 15th to March 19th: "Meribel Live" Concerts, including "The Feeling"
  • March 20th to March 26th: Altitude Comedy Festival

Special Offers

Petite Pia is offered at prices averaging 15% less than last year (operated by Scott Dunn), but with better service and facilities!

Christmas week is still available in Chalet Foinsbois and Chalet Petite Pia, also 4 beds remain in Chalet Iamato, all at 15%. Party leaders booking Christmas in Petite Pia will receive a pair of complimentary Three Valley Lift passes worth €464 provided the deposit is received by 15th November

For new bookings in January, all party members will benefit from complimentary, top of the range ski and boot hire if you finalise the booking by the 15th November. (Note that this offer does not apply to existing bookings.)

We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you to Meribel but where ever you ski this winter, may I wish you a wonderful holiday.
