The cuisine offered is a huge part of what sets a holiday with Purple Ski apart from the rest. Eating at Purple Ski has always been a memorable experience, akin to eating in a top quality restaurant. And we are proud that, in a recent competition run by The Times newspaper, in which scores of excellent companies were nominated by the public, Purple Ski won the award Times Chalet Chef 2010, so our food has been independently rated as the best cooking in the Alps. See articles and a video on The Times Web Site.
We love fine food and have always only employed professional chefs with several years experience in quality restaurants, hence with proven cooking skills. Staying small, with just a handful of chalets, has enabled us to maintain this standard. And this season's chefs are excellent! Take a look at their profiles at on the biographies page.
Our philosophy on food?
We hire with great care, give general guidance, then give the chefs free rein to do what they do best. But their food needs to be consistently exceptional, with good quality fresh ingredients, seasonal and locally sourced wherever possible. Great presentation is important, innovation is great, but flavours, texture and balance are key; dishes mustn't be over-complicated or gimmicky. Given the nature of ski chalet holidays, dinner is the focus, though every meal, including those for children, is important. We aim to cater equally well for all clients, large and small appetites alike, and whatever dietary preferences / intolerance they have.
What to expect
The day starts with a good breakfast of fruit juices, coffee, a choice of teas, yoghurts, cereals and porridge with fresh milk, eggs, jambon cru, cheeses, fresh fruit salad plate, fresh bread and freshly baked croissants and jams.
On your return from skiing a tea of fresh home made cakes and biscuits awaits you in the sitting room.
Dinner is the piece de resistance. Canapés are served in the sitting room before the meal while you sip your champagne. Then you can enjoy an exceptional four course meal to delight any gourmet, rounded off with real coffee, a digestif and home-made truffles.
