Chamonix

Chamonix is less a resort and more a large, authentic town that has grown organically over the centuries. Sprawling along a long and picturesque valley at the foot of Mont Blanc, it has attracted skiers and adventurers from across the world since the 18th century, who come to scale its peaks and marvel at its epic natural beauty.

And Chamonix has beauty in abundance: impossibly steep mountains punctuate the horizon with glaciers winding their way between almost every peak, while thick forest carpets the valley floor.

The town centre is no less charming, with historic buildings at every turn, and some of the best shopping in the Alps. Chamonix’s size means it has plenty to offer non-skiers as well as an enviable selection of bars and restaurants.

  • Grand Hôtel des Alpes

  • Hameau Albert 1er
Located about a 10-minute walk from the centre and a 5-minute drive from the ski lifts at Le Brévent or La Flégère.
  • Hôtel Mont-Blanc

Bars and Restaurants

Whether you’re seeking a mountain lunch with a view, an elegant restaurant for dinner, or a spot of après-ski, Chamonix has a wealth of bars and restaurants for you to try during your stay.

Some of our hotels are blessed with their own exceptional on-site restaurant, such as the Michelin-starred Albert 1er or the creative cuisine of Le Matafan at the Hotel Mont-Blanc.

Don’t miss a visit to the infamous La Folie Douce, which throws its classic cabaret-style parties but with a twist: the setting is a grand hotel in the heart of Chamonix.

For something more relaxed, enjoy an evening apéritif at our favourite bar in the Alps, the stylish QuartzBar at Hameau Albert 1er.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch for other bar and restaurant recommendations, we would be delighted to help make any bookings on your behalf.

Non Skiing Activities

Whether you have non-skiers in your group or are looking for some evening entertainment once the skis are off, Chamonix offers an array of activities, including some must-see tourist attractions.

The highest cable car in France whisks you to the top of the Aiguille du Midi, affording breathtaking views of Mont Blanc. Alternatively catch the train to the Mer de Glace, an enormous glacier with an ice cave that’s fun to explore, or hire a snowshoe guide to take you far off the beaten track.

With its walkable high street and excellent selection of shops, Chamonix is a wonderful shopping destination and invites a lazy afternoon of strolling and browsing boutiques in between coffee stops.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Chamonix when an ice hockey match is on, be sure to catch a at the Chamonix Pioneers stadium, an exciting way to end a day on the slopes.
