Travelling to the Three Valleys & Val d'Isère

When staying with Purple Ski you have the flexibility to choose how to get to resort and, perhaps as important, your travel times.

Flying

Getting to Méribel, Courchevel or Val d'Isère couldn't be easier; hop on a plane to Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble, Chambéry or Annecy, and we'll arrange for a vehicle to meet you, which will whisk you to your chalet in three hours or less.

The nearest airports to Méribel, Courchevel and Val d'Isère are Chambéry and Annecy. Chambéry is just over an hour from Méribel, about 1 hour 30 minutes from Courchevel 1850 and 2 hours from Val d'Isère, and for our UK visitors, is serviced by a growing number of low cost airlines. Annecy is available to private jets only (see Private Jet Charters below) and is about the same transfer time as Chambéry.

Geneva is the main airport for the Three Valleys, with numerous international flights from across the globe.

Two other airports convenient for Méribel, Courchevel and Val d'Isère are Lyon and Grenoble.

You have the choice between scheduled flights and private jet charter. Information about each appears below.

Scheduled flights

For details of scheduled flights from the UK see the grid below.

Our recommendation for guests arriving from the UK would be to fly with British Airways into Lyon. The start to your holiday will be more enjoyable, but more importantly if they have to cancel you flight for, say, bad weather, they will have another flight you can catch - but the next low cost airline flight might not be until the next day.

For details of who flies where why not try the Skyscanner search facility or, if travelling from the UK, use our airport grid below.

A good source of discounted flights to France is Cheapflights.co.uk.

Private jet charter

Echojet

We recommend you contact our partners EchoJet for all your enquiries about chartering a private jet from any airport in the world convenient to you.

Chartering your own jet to any of Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble, Chambéry or Annecy from the airport nearest your home is becoming increasingly popular among our for Purple Ski clients. Whether it's a short flight from the London area or a longer flight from Stockholm, Moscow, New York or Dubai, a private jet charter gives you the flexibility to decide your own departure and arrival times, check-in can be as little as 15 minutes before take-off and you use private terminals which are quicker, uncrowded and easier to use. On-board catering is whatever you want it to be and you can choose an aircraft that appeals to you in terms of size and facilities, and depending on the number in your party. More often than not there is an airport that your private jet can use that is closer to your home or office and much less congested than the major scheduled airports.

Also, importantly, only people you know will be flying with you, and using private terminals minimises contact with other people.

We are pleased to recommend that you contact EchoJet who will tailor your private jet experience to your exact requirements.

Call Nina direct at EchoJet on +44 (0)208 004 5770.

Private Jet

Rail

For trains services via Paris to Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains (approximately 20-30 minutes transfer to Méribel, and 30-40 minutes to Courchevel 1850) from London King's Cross St. Pancras please visit the Eurostar website.

Transfers

Purple Ski Transfers Probably the nicest and the most popular way to get to resort from the destination airport or station is by the Purple Ski Transfer Service, where you will be transported by one of our drivers in an air-conditioned Purple Ski minibus. These transfers are only available on a first come first served basis (at extra – though very competitive – cost), so as they say, book early to avoid disappointment.

Taxis Alternatively, we will be more than happy to arrange a taxi to collect you from your destination airport or train station. For taxi prices click here. Purple Ski only uses Leray Taxis, the best taxi company in the Three Valleys.

Public Bus Transfers from Geneva, Chambéry and Lyon Airports are readily available (approximately 4 services per day; change at Moutiers). Journey time is approximately 3 hrs 15 minutes from Geneva and 2 hours from Chambery. If you are going to use the bus do check the times of departure before booking your air tickets. For more details please click here.

Helicopter Transfers You can charter a helicopter to take you from the destination airport to Méribel or Courchevel. See helicopter section for details.

Rental Car For a good centralised online car hire booking service try Holiday Autos.co.uk. Or you can book direct with one of the larger companies like Avis, Budget and Hertz.

“So happy to see there is WIFI now in the transport vehicles! French champagne in the transfer bus was awesome, as was the food!”

Transfer Prices

Make sure your holiday gets off to the best possible start with a luxury transfer with Purple Ski.

One of our professional drivers will meet your flight / train and take you to your chalet in an air-conditioned VW Caravelle minibus (a smaller vehicle may be used for groups of 3 and less).

We offer a picnic breakfast / lunch / tea, lovingly prepared by your chalet chef, with champagne (inbound only) and bottled water, wi-fi and an iPad with a selection of films to keep the children (or you!) entertained on the journey.

A return transfer to Geneva airport costs just over €90 per person, based on 8 people sharing a vehicle. The prices below are for a one way journey and the price given is for the whole group specified in the top row.

Also note that transfers are available on a first come first served basis. If not available we will be more than happy to arrange a taxi for you. Please click here for details.

We usually allow 2.5 to 3 hours for transfers to Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble airports; 1.5 to 2 hours for transfers to Chambery; this may vary depending on road conditions.

Driving to the Three Valleys

The Three Valleys are only about 600 miles from Calais and, if coming from Southern England, this can make driving a convenient and economic way to get to the chalet, especially if you have a large party with lots of luggage. The roads are excellent, and the traffic problems, for which Méribel was infamous, have now largely disappeared.

The journey time is approximately 10 hours and total toll cost is about €70 each way.

If you are looking to stay in Moutiers or Brides les Bains the night before, so as to be on the piste on Sunday morning, there are several hotels in which to stay all of which are reasonably priced. Their telephone numbers can be found in the useful telephone numbers page. or alternatively contact us and we should be able to find a hotel room for you but do book as far ahead as possible.

Le Château de Candie

Alternatively, if you are looking for a place to stop overnight en-route, why not look at Le Château de Candie, a beautifully restored 14th century hotel set in immaculately kept grounds, overlooking Chambéry?

The château offers a choice of 25 exquisite, individually decorated rooms and suites, boasting original period features and stunning views of the mountainous Savoie landscape. There are also two excellent restaurants in the grounds: choose between the traditional brassiere La Cantine or head downstairs to the fine dining L'Orangerie to enjoy an outstanding gastronomic experience. You can also sample the Viognier wine made from grapes picked from the château's own vineyard.

We would be delighted to book the château on your behalf, so if you would like to make a reservation simply get in touch.

Taxis

For taxis, we recommend Yann Leray's company, Alpes Taxis Transports. While not the cheapest, they are thoroughly professional, wholly legitimate (licenced and insured) and, perhaps most importantly, since we started operating in 1991, have never let us down.

The prices below are for a one way journey. Payment for the taxi can either be made direct to the driver on day of use, or by credit card or bank transfer to Purple Ski.
